ARMINES/Mines Paris Tech
Association for the Research & Development of Methods and Industrial Processes
ARMINES is a private non-profit research and technological organisation (RTO), having common research centers including with the Ecoles des Mines Paris (Mines ParisTech). The joint Centre for Processes, Renewable Energies and Energy Systems Center (PERSEE) and the ARMINES’ European Affairs Department are involved in the Smart4RES project. PERSEE Research Centre is a European Leader in New Energy Technologies and Renewable Energies with a research strategy based on a “micro / macro” approach from (nano) materials to energy systems. One of the main research objectives is to develop methods and tools that facilitate the integration of distributed generation, including renewable energies and storage, into power systems and electricity markets.

INESC TEC
Engineering Institute on Systems, Technologies and Sciences
INESC TEC is a private non-profit institution having as associates the University of Porto, INESC and the Polytechnic Institute of Porto. The Centre for Power and Energy Systems (CPES) is INESC TEC’s main actor in the areas of electrical energy. This Research Centre is internationally recognised for its expertise in the integration of renewable energy in power systems, distributed generation and smart-grids, the areas traditionally associated with planning and operating power systems.
Main activities in Smart4RES: Collaborative forecasting and data market (WP4); Integrating RES forecast uncertainty for predictive management of electrical grids and isolated power systems (WP5)
ICCS
Institue of Communication and Computer Systems
ICCS is a non-profit, private legal entity associated with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA). The Institute has a strong experience on RES and load forecasting modelling using artificial intelligence techniques and maintains excellent connections with many Universities, Research Centres, Utilities and Power Industries active in the area of Smart Grids both at national and international level.
Main activities in Smart4RES: Deep learning approach for short term RES forecasting (WP3); Living lab validation of software modules and set up of new forecasting tools for test cases (WP6)

German Aerospace Center
The German Aerospace Center (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt; DLR) is the national aeronautics and space research centre of the Federal Republic of Germany. Its extensive research and development work in aeronautics, space, energy, transport, security and digitalisation is integrated into national and international cooperative ventures. DLR is also responsible for the planning and implementation of Germany’s space activities on behalf of the federal government. DLR is also the umbrella organisation for one of Germany’s largest project management agencies.

EDP CNET belongs to the EDP Group, an integrated energy player with strong presence in Europe, US and Brazil and the third player in the world in terms of wind installed capacity. The R&D Centre has the mission of creating value through collaborative R&D in the energy sector, with a strong focus in technology demonstration projects. EDP CNET is very active in the topics of renewable energies and flexibility in new energy systems, smart grids and digitization, energy storage and energy management and has a recognised expertise in cross-cutting topics, such as scalability and replicability analysis, validation of technologies in laboratorial environment or demonstration in real conditions.

Energy & Meteo Systems GmbH
EMSYS is among the internationally leading providers of wind and solar power predictions as well as virtual power plants to manage and dispatch renewable and other decentralized units. With these services and additional consulting activities, EMSYS substantially contributes to the efficiency of integrating renewable energies into power grids and energy markets.
The company has been partnering in several national and international research and demonstration projects to constantly improve wind and solar power forecasting.

Whiffle
Weather Finecasting
Whiffle is a spin-off from Delft University of Technology, specialised in ultra-high-resolution weather forecasting using GPU based Large Eddy Simulations. Currently, Whiffle is providing operational weather forecasts for various locations in Europe. In addition to day-ahead forecasting, the LES model is also run in hindcast mode, where multiple years of LES data are produced for detailed climatology.

French national weather organization
Météo France main mission is to provide weather forecasts and alerts towards public authorities and the public before the unset of dangerous phenomena. It provides products and services to various sectors (aeronautics, health, environment, defence) and insight to decision makers on the impacts of climate change. MF develops and operates weather forecasting numerical models ARPEGE, ALADIN, AROME, that are among the best in the world.

DTU is an internationally-leading university in the areas of engineering science and technology and known for its business-oriented approach and its focus on sustainability.
The Department of Electrical Engineering and its Centre for Electric Power and Energy (CEE) performs research with focus on the technological challenges related to a transformation of the electric power system into a sustainable, economic and reliable system with an increased share of renewable sources. The Department of Wind Energy is the world’s leading wind energy research centre. The work carried out covers all aspects of wind energy, from wind resources and wind flow, through turbine and wind farm design and planning aspects, to integration into the electricity grid.

DNV continuously invest in research and collaborative innovation to provide customers and society with operational and technological foresight.
Main activities in Smart4RES: Development of innovative use cases, information gathering through network of contact in industry, Provide part of the data infrastructure (WP1); Combined software and hardware in the loop tests for distribution grids and isolated power systems with high RES penetration (WP6)
HEDNO
Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network Operator S.A
HEDNO’s activities comprise the operation, maintenance and development of the electricity distribution network in Greece. HEDNO aims at providing reliable power supply to all customers, quality of electricity voltage and constant improvement of quality in services.
Main activities in Smart4RES: As an end user, HEDNO will define the requirements taking into account the Greek legal framework and the needs in the Greek System (WP1), HEDNO will participate in the development of an optimization problem that modifies the settings of specific services of battery storage and RES inverters by taking also under consideration power forecasts previously defined (WP5), and will be actively involved in the demonstration of forecasting modules, control algorithms and ancillary services in Greece (WP6).
DOWEL Innovation
Innovation management and funding consulting company
DOWEL Innovation is a consulting cooperative company providing recognised expertise in innovation management and funding, relying close to 30-year experience in Europe. Its main activity addresses value chains where innovation processes are conditioned by various regulations acting as barriers or catalysers to help inventions reaching market uses (energy, building, clean manufacturing and bio-resources). In the energy sector, DOWEL Innovation addresses the integration of renewable energy sources into the electric system and supports its research partners in the preparation, validation and management of their innovative development projects to address the challenges of the energy transition at European level.
